Since we've been gone a few weeks, we thought the best way to jump start our reviews would be to answer a few questions we've received. So, here's our brand new 'frequently asked questions' to answer our readers most pressing quandaries.
I submitted my novel, when I can expect a review?
Unfortunately, with the amount of submissions the Underground receives, we just don't have time to review every book sent to us. Once we've selected a novel to review, we'll let the author know immediately, and have a review ready and posted in the next week.We're happy you thought of us, and as soon as we have some news regarding your submission, we'll let you know. Until then, we hope you keep reading and keep in touch.
How do you choose books to review?
This is a complicated issue for us, because we really wanted to give every novel the attention it deserves and review everything we receive. But we just don't have the time to review everything. Our next thought was that we'd just read everything sent to us, and only post reviews for the ones we liked the best. But ultimately, we just don't have the hours in the day to implement a pre-review read for every novel we receive. So how do we decide? Well, we go with what sounds interesting based on the synopsis provided by the author when a novel is submitted. So be sure to write one.
There are other factors sometimes too, like if we've reviewed a lot of the same type of book in a row, we might look for something different for a change. And occasionally, if an author notifies us of the date of a new release or event they'd like to have a review coincide with, we're willing to work with an author's timeline.
Do you receive compensation for reviews?
Nope. We're not paid by authors, or publishers at this point. However, we do often receive free copies of ebooks. It is important for us to note that our reviews and opinions do not in any way depend on receiving free copies. Occasionally, we review books we've purchased out of our own pockets, simply because we like them. But none of our reviews are influenced by free submissions, or other forms of compensation.
